I'm taking the leap: I turned in my notice at work. In three weeks I'll be retiring!
Even my auto mechanic found it amusing when I said I was going to retire when I turned twenty-four years old. I say "retire" because I'm opting out of a cycle where I work out of obligation rather than desire and fulfillment.
I feel the work you do during your life should be a reflection of who you are, contribute the world in some way, and leave you feeling fulfilled. For me, data management does not fit these requirements. It was my responsibility to get through university, and my desk job provided me the means to graduate without debt. For that, I'm very thankful. Now it's time to move on.
My last day is March 8th. This is about the time I should be receiving notice if I've been accepted into the early departure JET participants.
Life isn't made of guarantees. It's a bit scary to quit my job before I know for sure I'm going to Japan with JET, yet I know that if you put your heart and soul into achieving a goal, you're bound to reach it through all your efforts.
So, I jumped.

JET Status: My interview for the JET Program is this week. The support and confidence I've received from others has been immense and overwhelming in its kindness. I will honor my signed agreement not to discuss the interview process, and let everyone know if/when I am accepted afterwards. Thank you!
