The first night the dekayama move!
The Seihakusai Festival is the biggest event in Nanao. Everyone here spends the entire year looking forward to it. Seihakusai is when three huge dekayama weighing 20 tons each are pulled through the streets via ropes. To watch it going past is one thing; to pull it is another! They move a lot faster than you'd expect by their size.
Here are a few photos of the completed dekayama, me climbing to the top of one (so scary and awesome), and some of the people who made sure we didn't hit any electric poles (or at least, not that many). Enjoy!
